Corrections for Alexis Gabe's Homicide Case

Case note

Following the release of our episode covering the homicide of Alexis Gabe, a few details were brought to our attention that needed more precise wording.

We reviewed the episode alongside the available police reports. Below are the clarifications.

POINT 1 — The Missing Person Report Caller

The early emergency-call material and police reports use inconsistent relationship labels around this point. The caller is recorded as identifying as a family member/sibling, while other case materials identify Morgan Strenfel as one of the family-connected people involved early in the search and vehicle recovery.

Clarification: The more accurate wording is that the call came from someone connected to Alexis’s family. Additional context from Alexis's family identifies that person as Morgan who was the girlfriend of Alexis’s brother at the time.

POINT 2 — Alexis and Marshall’s Relationship

The case file shows a more complicated relationship timeline. Some early police interactions use the word “boyfriend,” but multiple reports and summaries describe Marshall as Alexis’s ex-boyfriend or former on-and-off boyfriend.

Context provided to us by Alexis's family explains that Alexis and Marshall had broken up since November 2021. Because they still communicated, her parents did not initially know they were no longer together. According to the additional context provided, the months after the breakup were extremely difficult for Alexis. Alexis’s family believes Marshall manipulated and pressured her into going to his house that night.

Clarification: Alexis should be described as Marshall’s former girlfriend. The night she disappeared they had already broken up, and her family believes she was pressured into going to his house.

POINT 3 — The Masked Figure’s Route

In the episode, we stated that the masked figure seen after Alexis’s car was abandoned eventually arrived at Marshall’s mother’s house.

The police surveillance summaries track the person leaving the abandoned Infiniti and walking through the Oakley Road / Beldin Lane / Live Oak Avenue / Neroly Road area.

Clarification: According to context provided by Alexis's family, the masked figure walked to Marshall's step father's house instead of Marshall’s mother’s house.

POINT 4 — The Black Garbage Bags

In the episode, we discussed large black garbage bags seen in connection with Marshall and Alicia Coleman-Clark.

To avoid confusion, the remains being discussed were Alexis Gabe’s remains. Alicia was mentioned only in relation to what investigators suspected she may have known.

Clarification: The black garbage bags were being discussed in relation to Alexis Gabe’s remains.

POINT 5 — Flight Records

That wording should be tightened. The Contra Costa District Attorney’s Office later stated that flight purchase records did not show purchase activity involving Alicia Coleman-Clark, and that the flight appeared to have been arranged through a third-party vendor.

Clarification: Investigators examined whether someone helped Marshall travel, but official records did not establish that Alicia purchased the ticket.
